Student Casework
Remit:
This ARC Practitioner Group has been established to represent the views of the HE sector on all issues relating to student casework (complaints, appeals, disciplinary and fitness to practise). The Group advises members on latest developments, provides a forum for debate, disseminates good practice and seek to influence and lead debate on these issues across the sector.
Student Casework
Senior representatives from the Office of the Independent Adjudicator for Higher Education (OIA) regularly attend our meetings, leading to useful, honest, and frank dialogue between the OIA and the sector. The Chair of the Group is a member of the OIA’s Good Practice Framework Steering Group.
The Group has also set up regional practitioner groups, which meet informally away from the main Group meetings, sharing good practice and discussing concerns. Issues arising from these groups inform the agenda for the main meetings.
CURRENT PROJECTS:
The group has established a number of areas of focus for the next two years:
- the impact of student mental health issues on student casework
- aligning the various expectations of external bodies (OIA, QAA, OfS, PSRBs etc)
- the new Good Practice Framework chapter on Disciplinary, and its implications for disciplinary policies and practice, together with how such policies and regulations manage hate crime, gender-based violence, and sexual misconduct.
- fitness to practise
- development opportunities for practitioners
